Plantothèque: the shared shelving unit
Going on vacation is often synonymous with relaxation and enjoyment, but for plant lovers, it can also be a source of stress. Who will take care of my plants while I'm away? How can I prevent them from wilting and drying out? Fortunately, an ingenious solution is emerging to address these concerns while fostering social interaction within your building: the plant library.
The plant shelf, animated by cascading water like a Jean Tinguely sculpture, is gravity-fed by rainwater runoff from the roofs. Thanks to integrated sensors, the shelf detects the soil moisture level and only waters when necessary, thus preventing overwatering and the risk of root rot.
This plant shelf is also designed to encourage interaction among the building's residents. By installing the shelf in a common area, such as the entrance hall or the various corridors, it becomes a natural meeting point where residents can exchange tips on gardening and herbs like basil, strawberries, flowering tulips and cut flowers, or simply chat about greenery.
The plant shelf represents a practical and user-friendly solution for plant lovers who wish to enjoy their holidays with peace of mind while strengthening the social fabric of their community.

Frédéric-Charles AILLET dreamed of building a plant library animated by waterfalls, like a sculpture by Jean Tinguely… and Sempervirens began to propose this idea in competitions, the first time in 2014 with Emmanuel Combarel and Dominique Marrec @ECDM Architectes, then with Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane @Jakob MacFarlane, but as we don't always win… OUCH, the end of a myth 😊
It is finally with MFR Architectes François MALBURET in Bagneux that Sempervirens is finally bringing the project to fruition in 2 very large communal greenhouses! And to the great delight of the future residents of the absolutely fantastic aquaponic building that we are currently delivering with BNP Paribas Real Estate Joseph JANSEM Céline PINOT!
After a very long technical development process, we are adapting the project for several applications. SEMPERVIRENS LANDSCAPERS is now finally able to offer the system for sale. Pre-orders are officially open upon request for public or private projects!
